Tree 1 Horse chestnut - Undertake a crown reduction to remove 30% of overall branch length (i.e. radial distance) to leave a balanced crown form. This corresponds to approximately a 3m reduction in branch length, leaving approx. 7 m (i.e. the radial distance from the point of crown break on the main stem). Reason: Crown reduction in order to reduce the sail area of the canopy and subsequent leverage and pressure on the wall by the root system. Also, to reduce the extent of limbs over the pavement, road and garden as a measure intended to reduce the risk of hazardous loss of limbs, as has recently occurred with this tree. Tree 3 Lime - Undertake a crown reduction to balance shape and deadwood management. Crown reduction to remove 30% of overall branch length (i.e. radial distance) to leave a balanced crown form. This corresponds to approximately a 2-3m reduction in branch length, leaving approx. 5 to 7 m (i.e. the radial distance from the point of crown break on the main stem).Remove epicormic growth in order to inspect lower stem. Reason: To contribute to safeguarding the long-term stability of the retaining wall it is advisable to reduce the sail area of the canopy of this tree and therefore reduce the leverage and stress caused by the root system. Overall stability of the tree will be improved by crown reduction. Deadwood management is advised in order to reduce the risk of woody debris falling onto the road, pavement and garden below. Tree 5 Oak - Undertake a crown reduction to balance shape and deadwood management. The crown form of this tree is asymmetrical due to the shading effect of neighbouring trees. The crown spread is greater to the south over the garden area. It is recommended that the crown of the oak is reduced by 30% of overall branch length (i.e. radial distance) to leave a balanced crown form. This corresponds to approximately a 2-3m reduction in branch length, leaving approx. 5 to 7 m (i.e. the radial distance from the point of crown break on the main stem). Reason: To improve the overall balance and symmetry of the shape of the crown, with subsequent long-term stability and increased visual amenity. Deadwood management to remove any major deadwood that may become a hazard. Tree 8 Yew - Light crown reduction to balance shape
