About trees applications

How this application type works

Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.

Please see previously submitted documentation - Tree Report Dated 19th May 2012 and TPO 260 Tree Numbers listed below refer to Carlisle council TPO 260, Carlisle Council Schedule of Trees and Mr William Robb's (Tree Surgeon, BSC(Hons)For) report 2012 Trees 1-9. T1 (Beech) - Reduce length of overhanging branches above road by 1m Large branches extending and overhanging Station Road. Please refer to supporting document of Tree Report 2012 (Tree 1 in report) and also to picture 1 in supporting documents. T2(Beech) - Remove dead wood. T3 (Lime) Remove dead wood T4(Birch) - Remove dead wood and low overhanging branches on Station Road. Please Consider removal of this tree and plantation of younger silver Birch. It was noted in report that structural condition of this particular tree is poor and has a lifespan of 10-20 years. For long term sustainability for other trees in vicinity and fact that structurally weak tree is in position of being adjacent to public highway, removal of this tree had been recommended in 2012 and refused by council. Please see report again and decide if council happy to take responsibility for poor structural condition of this tree if it is to remain. We would be more than happy to plant a younger silver birch in its place to preserve the long term amenity. T5(Lime) - Crown reduction and reshaping <6m and removal of dead wood. Please see major concerns over this tree in Tree Survey Report 2012. Die back noted in crown on tree report which needs removed. Noted to loose leaves earlier than other adjacent lime tree and in 2012 had signs of stem and root decay. Also has structurally weak V fork in main stem. Tree Surgeon again recommended reshaping of tree to sustain its long term future which has previously been rejected. Please reconsider. T6(Pine) - Removal of dead wood T7 (copper beech) - Crown reduction of 2m and removal of dead wood. Report in 2012 highlighted this tree as a major concern with early beech bark disease which has now progressed and several severe basal flush cuts with incomplete woundwood. We wish to preserve this tree for the amenity of ourselves and the public so believe the above work should be granted as recommended by a tree expert to maintain the long term future of this lovely tree. T8 - Beech - Remove dead wood T9 - Beech - Remove dead wood and any low overhanging branches across Station Road
