Awaiting decision Cherwell 25/01975/TCA Works To Trees In Conservation Area

Works: Trees

Still open. Anyone can comment while the consultation period runs, and comments go to the council rather than to us.

Proposal

T1 x Fern Tree - Tree has outgrown the size of the garden, branches are encoaching towards the house and cables coming into the house. The volume of needles being dropped is becoming a problem and impossible to keep tidy, they are covering and killing the grass below - to be felled. T2 x Holly tree - again, it has outgrown the size of the garden and has a structural weakness where it splits into three - to be felled. T3 x Yew Tree - This is against the wall and poses a structural threat to the future integrity of the wall. It is also encoraching into another yew tree - to be felled.

T1 Yew - to remove lowest rung of branches, all round to balance , giving two meter clearance of building. It is thought that to reduce the tree would not be prudent , so applying for crown lifting to create more light in space under the tree and make it less dominant over the building.

Yew Trees – T15 and T16: Whilst the trees are category ‘B2’ they have been substantially pushing on a Grade II listed boundary wall which is directly onto The Walk, resulting in a risk to the general public from collapse. Temporary props have been installed, but it is considered that a risk remains to the public. The original consented planning application ‘24/01113/F’ hoped to just reduce the canopies of these trees, further subsequent movement of the wall now necessitates the need to remove these trees on safety grounds. As set out in the attached structural engineer’s report, the tree roots are contributing to the movement of the wall – leading to a critical safety matter as the wall would fall into a public space. This risk would remain if the wall were to be rebuilt, due to the proximity of the roots. Consequently, the wall cannot be made safe or rebuilt without removing these trees and their root systems.
