Grantchester Meadows Grantchester Meadows Cambridge Cambridgeshire
Proposal
Tag 1 - White Horse Chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) - Remove stem from bole to leave a 2m bole as habitat. Reason - Partial collapse of severely decayed part of tree. Remaining stem supported by very decayed bole. Risk of collapse. Area only open to site user and trespassers. Tree marked with orange paint. Tag 2 - Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) - Remove tree. Reason - Risk of collapse. Adjacent to access path to club sites. Tree marked with orange paint. Tag 3 - Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) - Reduce height to 1.5m to retain as habitat whilst removing risk of collapse across the path. Reason - This 6m bolling is the remains of a previously reduced tree. Given the lean towards the access path and the unknown level of decay at the base, there is a risk of collapse before the next tree survey.

What a grant of permission means
The process from here
Permission has been granted, usually subject to conditions listed on the decision notice, some of which must be discharged before work starts. The decision notice on the council portal sets out exactly what was approved.
Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses. Neighbours cannot appeal a grant; challenging one means judicial review of how the decision was made, within tight time limits.
About trees applications
How this application type works
Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.
