What happens while it is decided
The process from here
This application is with Broxbourne for determination. The council publicises it, consults neighbours and technical bodies where required, and weighs the responses against local and national planning policy.
The statutory target is eight weeks for most applications and thirteen for major development, though extensions of time are common. Comments carry most weight while the case is undecided, so check the council portal for the deadline if you want to respond.
About householder applications
How this application type works
Householder applications cover work to an existing house and its garden: extensions, loft and garage conversions, porches, outbuildings and similar alterations within the boundary of the home. They cannot be used to create a separate dwelling or change what the building is used for. Councils aim to decide them within eight weeks, and immediate neighbours are usually notified and given a chance to comment.

I am writing to request retrospective permission for a minor alteration to my outbuildings. The two storage sheds are both mine and are joined side by side. One shed door opens directly into my private garden, while the other opens into the communal corridor/alley adjacent to the garden. I have removed the non-structural internal dividing brick wall between the two sheds to create one larger storage space. The exterior footprint remains unchanged, the walls have been cemented, and internal shelving has been added for storage. I would be grateful if a housing officer or surveyor could assess the work and consider it for retrospective approval.
