What happens while it is decided
The process from here
This application is with Brighton and Hove for determination. The council publicises it, consults neighbours and technical bodies where required, and weighs the responses against local and national planning policy.
The statutory target is eight weeks for most applications and thirteen for major development, though extensions of time are common. Comments carry most weight while the case is undecided, so check the council portal for the deadline if you want to respond.
About householder applications
How this application type works
Householder applications cover work to an existing house and its garden: extensions, loft and garage conversions, porches, outbuildings and similar alterations within the boundary of the home. They cannot be used to create a separate dwelling or change what the building is used for. Councils aim to decide them within eight weeks, and immediate neighbours are usually notified and given a chance to comment.

The application: T1 - A large Weeping Ash (Fraxinus Excelsior 'Pendula') which has perished, located in the center of the garden. The ash threatens a neighboring Hazel T2 (Corylus Avellana) and is dropping substantial dead wood in strong winds. Many of the branches were also victim to squirrel damage prior to the tree dying. The owner of the tree is concerned with the instability and unpredictability of its now dead extremities especially due to the tree's central position in the garden. I have advised to monolith, rather than fell, as after inspection I didn't notice any rot or decay around the base, nor anything else that may compromise the integrity of the lower trunk; safe to monolith for habitat.

T1 & T4 Removal T2 & T3 Crown Reduction (4m) T1,T2,T3,T4 Acer Pseudoplatanus. Please see sketch plan attached. Reason for Removal The trees proposed for removal have been assessed in accordance with BS 5837:2012. They exhibit canopy dominance that results in significant overshadowing of adjacent trees, restricting light and growing space and leading to suppression of the neighbouring specimens. This is contrary to good arboricultural practice, which requires that retained trees have adequate room to develop a balanced, sustainable crown. Selective removal will reduce competition, improve light availability, and support the long-term health and viability of the remaining tree group in line with BS 5837 guidance on future growth potential and group management.
