Proposal
Mature Sycamore at rear of sawmill (East side) inside fence. 3m patch of stripped bark at major union 10 m above ground on building side. Crown showing die back above bark less area. 7 Oyster Fungus (Pleurotus ostreatus) brackets present spread over the whole bark less area. Take half of the weight out above wound, Reduce limb to growth point that is in the wound. Bring in lower canopy. Aim to retain tree and reduce need for further tree surgery in future. Reducing risk to listed building and work area below. Work shown and advice take from Greg Long Tree Care.

We (the National Trust) wish to replace the existing 620m stock fence as it is beyond reasonable repair and is no longer stock proof in several places. The fence will be replaced to the same specification as the existing, which comprises stock netting with two runs of barbed wire over. The trees as detailed below and shown on the map (Doc 1) will require some pruning or coppicing along the existing fence line to enable the new fence to be installed. Location. Type. Work required. We have had branches fall of the tree recently, which only just missed the conservatory.The sycamore has a lot of squirrel damage throughout the canopy which is quite concerning. T2- self seeded sycamore growing against garden fence remove to ground level. T3-large sycamore crown lift 4/5 metre and side prune north side of tree 2 metre one limb on the tree is over extending.
