Proposal
Along the roadside to the drive entrance is a row of poor quality Yew trees. Permission is requested to: T1- Remove any dead wood/dangerous branches but retain current height of tree as this tree is considerably shorter than those around it. T2 & T3 - Poor quality yew trees, maximum height reduction to the same height as T1. T4 - Good quality early mature yew tree - Maximum height reduction of 1.5m to prevent tree outgrowing its position. T5 - Field maple - all round 1-2m crown reduction allowing re-shape of crown following break out. All works to be carried out in accordance with BS3998.

I think the tree is a Leylandii or something similar. It is marked 2 on my plan CATCH 1 and I hope that you will give me permission to remove it. I have stated reasons for removal of the tree in the previous section. Affecting canopy of important cedar (1).Too near magnolia (3), shading pergola area; partly dying back and now looking an eyesore. The trees are about 20 feet apart. As regards a replacement, in anticipation of the felling we have planted a Magnolia Grandiflora (4) which is doing very well. We could not plant in the same place as tree (2) because of the proximity of the other trees. We would be very pleased for planners to visit and discuss as they think appropriate.

Tree T1 (as identified in accompanying documents) is in the rear garden of the address. It is contributing to a range of issues/concerns, including pressure from neighbours due to leaf litter/detritus, ongoing maintenance issues such as low branches and detritus affecting the adjacent public highway as well as being implicated in a range of structural issues. While re-pollarding was considered, the complications involved in undertaking extensive structural repairs are exacerbated by the presence of the tree. As such, the preferred course of action is for tree T1 to be removed, including stump treatment/removal to inhibit regrowth. Replacement planting of species with lower water demand and slower growth habits is suggested. Species such as Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia) or Field Maple (Acer campestre) will provide visual amenity, wildlife benefits and are less likely to lead to conflicts with nearby structures in future. Suggested locations for replacement planting are within the rear garden of the property but removed from directly adjacent to the boundary retaining wall. As such, once grown, public visual amenity would be provided. To ensure some visual amenity is provided in the short-term, it is proposed that semi-standard sized tree is planted.
