We have recently moved into the property and would like to remove a horse chestnut tree (pink blossom) from our garden to help with damp problems in the house and because the tree itself is suffering from rot. The tree was previously consented for removal under planning application 21/00479/TPC but was never removed - this application was made by a previous owner of the property. The original reason for removal was extensive rot. We have recently consulted a tree surgeon who agreed that it should be removed.

Proposed Works: Reduction of T1 - Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) by 2-3 metres in both canopy height and lateral spread. Reason for Works: Decay is present within the lower stem, and Polyporus squamosus (Dryad?s Saddle) is evident on the tree, indicating internal dysfunction and a reduction in structural stability. The works are proposed to manage the associated risk while retaining the tree.

Northbrook Hall Duke Street Micheldever Winchester Hampshire SO21 3DF

We have recently been granted Planning Permission to install solar panels on the south facing roof of Northbrook Hall, which stands in the conservation area of Micheldever. In order to gain the full benefits of the system we wish to prune back the crab apple tree which sits to the south of the building. I attach a photo of the tree in front of the building. The tree was one of a pair of trees that were planted, presumably for decorative purposes, on the strip of land between the Hall and Duke Street. The second tree, a cherry ( to the left of the crab apple in the picture) suffered a substantial break a few years ago and has so far failed to regenerate. I understand that it is now unlikely to do so. Pillar Apple - Reduce crown of Apple to previous reduction points. (Amended) It should be noted that this part of Duke Street has a large number of very tall mature hard wood trees which of course would not be affected at all. We would suggest that the environmental benefits of a more efficient solar panel installation would outweigh the very minor change to the tree population of the immediate area.

T1 Maple - there are deep cracks in the main stem of the tree and the middle of the crown of the tree is dead indicating severe structural weakness and that the tree is likely dying. The client wishes to remove the tree as it is hazardous and would cause damage to nearby outbuildings and structures if it were to fail.

(amended) G1: Aesculus hippocastanum x 3. T1 - radial reduction no more than 4m. The trees have grown as a group, and working from south to north, the second and third trees exhibit serious structural and physiological defects that render retention in their current form unfeasible. Tree 2 has a significant included union at 2m, a cavity at 5m W aspect (500 x 400mm), and a large cavity and bark de-laminantion at 12m E aspect where its appears a top has failed historically. Tree 3 has lost a large limb historically, with extensive cambial death around the stem at 1m, and colonisation by Cerioporous squamosus (moderate significance on this species). There is also an included union at 3m. Overall, the trees have grown as a group, and the failure of one of them is likely to result in upper canopy failures of the others into the direction of the prevailing wind. At present, upper canopy failure is entirely foreseeable, so a significant reduction is necessary. Reduce in height by 8 - 10m, to leave a finished height of 10m.

The existing fence is falling apart and several posts have failed. I propose complete replacement with the following fence panels: https://www.jacksons-fencing.co.uk/fencing/fencing-panels/tongue-and-groove-effect-convex and these trellis toppers: https://www.jacksons-fencing.co.uk/product/sc_745300/300mm-high-x-1.83m-wide-concave-or-convex-curved-framed-trellis-topper on concrete slotted posts and 300mm smooth concrete gravel boards. The proposed fence measures 243cm from the bottom of the panel to the highest point of the trellis topper. The existing fence is 230cm, so like-for-like this would be a 13cm increase. However, there are small gaps under the existing fence panels - I have measured up to 239cm from the ground on the site?s side (there is an upward gradient towards Hilden Way). With the proposed concrete gravel boards, these gaps can be smaller or eliminated entirely.
