Oak. On 21 May 2021 in high winds the oak tree on the boundary of St Johns/Rest Harrow sustained damage. As this damage was a safety issue (the damaged tree branches could fall on anybody walking under the tree) we contacted an Arborist for advice. He recommended that the damaged branches be removed immediately. This was carried out. The Arborist recommended that the crown be reduced by 4 meters to preserve the tree. (The canopy of the tree has a large gap where the damaged branches were removed causing the tree to be unbalanced). There is also some dead wood that needs removing. There is only one oak tree that has a Tree Preservation Order on the sketch map.

This pruning has lead to an abundance of exterior growth which has been shaded out by new outer canopy growth resulting in excessive deadwood. Reduce the lateral spread by no more than 1m from the tips blending to 0.5m at the top. Remove all deadwood down to 20mm in diameter or longer than 0.5m in length. (REF ONLY)

T1 Oak- crown reduce by around 2-3 meters back to suitable growth points. Remove lower epicormic shoots. Remove any major deadwood. Reason is general maintenance, also the tree has signs of potential ganoderma as a bracket has been located at the base of the tree (picture in attachments) however the bracket has been pulled of by a neighbouring shrub so has lost its colour and is hard to identify what exact bracket it is from. This could cause problem in the future, however a general crown reduction will help reduce the risk until re assessed at a later date if needed.
