What a grant of permission means

The process from here

Permission has been granted, usually subject to conditions listed on the decision notice, some of which must be discharged before work starts. The decision notice on the council portal sets out exactly what was approved.

Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses. Neighbours cannot appeal a grant; challenging one means judicial review of how the decision was made, within tight time limits.

About householder applications

How this application type works

Householder applications cover work to an existing house and its garden: extensions, loft and garage conversions, porches, outbuildings and similar alterations within the boundary of the home. They cannot be used to create a separate dwelling or change what the building is used for. Councils aim to decide them within eight weeks, and immediate neighbours are usually notified and given a chance to comment.

T1 (beech): Carry out radial reduction by no more than 2.5m with maximum pruning wounds of 50 mm. The tree has historically lost a large stem, leaving a wound that is going to continue to decay and is now a likely point of failure. The reduction is to safeguard the retention of the tree and retain as much amenity as feasibly possible. The reduction to current pruning points is insufficient in my opinion, ad the canopy must be pruned in such a wway as to mimic the retrenchment. (Amended) T7 (Weeping beech: not on survey schedule). This tree is covered by the conservation area but not TPOd. Reduce overextended limb on western aspect by no more than 3m with pruning wounds no greater than 50 mm. (Amended)

Copper Beech: having just been trimmed from the other far side, the tree is now dangerously low over our outbuildings. Weeping Beech: I have received complaints from our neighbours that this is causing damp issues to their garage buildings. The work we propose is to cut 2-3m of branches from each tree so that they are not sitting on the roof of ours & our neighbours outbuildings.
