Excavation at 12.5m or more from T1B beech (1288T1 as detailed on winch.maps.arcgis.com) up to 1m depth to determine extent of tree root growth to the east. Excavation works to progress at point furthest from the tree and work towards the tree with 12.6m from the centre of the tree being the closest point for excavation. All excavations should avoid damage to the protective bark covering larger (over 25mm diameter) roots. Excavation to be carried out by hand tools (hand mattock / trowel / fork / spade) or utilising a compressed air device to loosen the soil for removal. Roots, whilst exposed, should be wrapped in dry, clean hessian sacking to prevent drying and to protect from temperature changes. Roots smaller than 25mm diameter may be pruned back, preferably to a side branch, using a proprietary clean cutting tool such as bypass secateurs or handsaw. Roots larger than 25mm diameter should only be severed following consultation with the appointed Arboricultural Consultant, as the roots may be important to the tree's health and stability. Prior to backfilling, any hessian wrapping should be removed and retained roots should be surrounded by the excavated soil or sharp sand (builder's sand should not be used because of its high salt content which is toxic to tree roots), or other loose granular fill, before soil or other material is replaced. All excavation works must be subject to Arboricultural Consultant supervision.
