x1 Acer Pseudoplatanus (Sycamore): Reduction by 2-3m from the height and width back to previous points of reduction Justification for Pruning Works The tree has a heavily extended and unbalanced upper crown, caused by historic over-lifting and previous reductions that have created a weak structural framework. The current form presents increased mechanical loading on several extended limbs, and without intervention the risk of limb failure will continue to rise, particularly during periods of high winds. The proposed pruning will address these issues by reducing end-weight, improving crown balance, and restoring appropriate clearance from the property and garden. A crown reduction of 1.5 to 2 metres, combined with a crown lift to 4 metres, removal of deadwood and selective weight reduction on vulnerable limbs, will significantly reduce mechanical stress throughout the canopy. These works are in line with BS 3998:2010 and aim to maintain the tree???s long-term structural integrity while minimising the need for heavier, more intrusive works in the future. The tree???s current height and spread also cause excessive shading to the garden and adjoining property. The proposed works will moderate light obstruction while retaining the tree???s overall form and amenity value. This level of pruning represents a reasonable and proportionate management approach that avoids the deterioration in structure and appearance that would result from more severe reduction. In combination, the works will: - Improve structural stability and reduce risk of branch failure - Restore crown balance following historic over-lifting - Reduce shading impacts on the adjacent garden - Manage deadwood and minor defects - Provide appropriate clearance from structures - Retain the tree???s amenity value while reducing ongoing maintenance pressures The proposal therefore represents a proportionate and arboriculturally sound intervention that improves safety, reduces nuisance, and supports the continued retention of the tree in the long term.
