Works: Trees
Decided. The decision notice on the council portal carries the outcome in full, including any conditions.
Proposal
The yew tree located at 126 The Causeway, Steventon has been severely cut back on the side adjoining the neighbouring property. Since this pruning, the tree has not responded well and remains problematic for the adjacent property. Despite the reduction works, the tree continues to cause significant issues. It casts year-round shade over the neighbouring property and provides a perch for a large number of pigeons. The birds regularly defecate on the neighbouring driveway, which creates a nuisance and may present a potential health concern. In addition, the tree sheds debris throughout the year, which continues to accumulate on the neighbouring property and requires ongoing maintenance to clear. The tree is also beginning to affect the historic wall located at its base. The trunk is in direct contact with the wall and appears to be exerting physical pressure on the structure, raising concerns about potential damage. Overall, the tree continues to cause an ongoing nuisance and may present a risk to the adjacent property and the historic wall. Further pruning is unlikely to mitigate the issues described or the risk to the wall. It should also be noted that the adjacent property recently suffered a fire which resulted in the house being destroyed. The building was located approximately 5 metres from the tree canopy, and it is therefore possible that the tree was exposed to heat or fire damage as a result of this incident. At present, any such damage has not yet become visible within the crown; however, the potentially affected area corresponds with the unpruned side of the tree. Recommendations â¿¿ Fell in sections to ground level.

The proposal is to erect a 1.5m high bow top fence to the play areas of the school site. The new fence will sit back from the existing boundary wall and not affixed. The timber picket fence will however be replaced with the new installation.
