Decided Vale of White Horse P17/V3504/TCA Works to trees in CA

Works: Trees

Decided. The decision notice on the council portal carries the outcome in full, including any conditions.

Proposal

T1 - Purple leaved Plum (Prunus cerasifera) There is a purple leaved plum tree (prunus cerasifera) in our front garden. It has not been maintained for several years and is now overgrown. Some of the branches now extend over the grassed area and they are only a metre above the ground, in places. I would ike permission to have the tree trimmed back, removing at most one quarter of the branch length. This would also prevent the branches of the tree from growing out over the road. The tree is currently about 8 metres in diameter. Remarks:

The single dead Cherry tree is shown as "C" in a red circle on the Sketchmap provided. For reasons of safety before autumn storms, the crown now needs to be reduced by removal of the lateral branches to a residual limb length of c. 1 metre above main unions, creating a branched monolith (of about 4-5m height) . This is a wildlife-friendly alternative to complete removal. The trunk already has ivy growth, and the tree will continue to provide potential harbourage for wood-boring insects, other invertebrates, birds and smal mammals. Arborists have indicated that the standing dead tree should remain stable for several years as a monolith. Stability will be checked annually. The lopped branches will be cut into manageable pieces to make a habitat pile in a designated area of the churchyard. N.B. There is no Tree Preservation Order in force for this tree or any other tree in the chuchyard.
