Decided Vale of White Horse P17/V3495/TCA Works to trees in CA

Works: Trees Small domestic

Read from the description, not a valuation. How we read the register

Decided. The decision notice on the council portal carries the outcome in full, including any conditions.

Proposal

7 x Leylandii conifer trees Retrospective consent for the removal of 7 no Leylandii conifer trees. The trees had overgrown the space and were hitting neighbouring properties roofs and windows causing neighbours to complain. The trees were removed without knowing consent was required to do so as they were located in a conservation area. The trees will not be replanted as: 1. the site is too restricted. 2. following the removal of the trees damage to the boundary wall (located directly behind the conifers) was discovered. A structural surveyor was appointed to advise on the condition of the wall, temporary propping of the wall and the proposed design of the rebuilding of the boundary wall. Remarks:

The single dead Cherry tree is shown as "C" in a red circle on the Sketchmap provided. For reasons of safety before autumn storms, the crown now needs to be reduced by removal of the lateral branches to a residual limb length of c. 1 metre above main unions, creating a branched monolith (of about 4-5m height) . This is a wildlife-friendly alternative to complete removal. The trunk already has ivy growth, and the tree will continue to provide potential harbourage for wood-boring insects, other invertebrates, birds and smal mammals. Arborists have indicated that the standing dead tree should remain stable for several years as a monolith. Stability will be checked annually. The lopped branches will be cut into manageable pieces to make a habitat pile in a designated area of the churchyard. N.B. There is no Tree Preservation Order in force for this tree or any other tree in the chuchyard.
