T1 - Horse Chestnut G2 - Group planting of Box, Thuja and Yew T1 - Horse Chestnut - mature tree at its full potential, showing good vitality and yearly extension growth with no impact to root area. Good buttress formation and a potentially poor main union can be seen at 2.5m. No adaptive growth noted which could indicate a weakness and given its age, I feel this union to be stable. Previously the tree has been heavily reduced in height. Prior to this, invasive steel cable bracing has been installed to support the main union which is no longer serving any purpose. More recently there has been some work carried out over the road in a more sympathetic manor, although I feel the lateral growth has now become over-extended and is out of balance with the height creating a higher potential of limb failure in future. Recommendations: Reduce selected over extended laterals by up to 1.5-2.5m where appropriate, to suitable secondary growth points leaving a balanced and flowing crown outline. With the roadside portion of the crown, which also overhangs an adjacent property with thatched roof, we will look to reduce the drop line of the canopy away from the thatched roof as much as possible and lift to statutory highways clearance of 5.5m over road area only, leaving th ependulous limbs over the garden as a screen and a flowing crown outline. We would also carry out a climbing inspection of all major limb junctions and remove any major dead wood. Group 2 - Group planting of Box, Thuja and Yew - carry out formative pruning works to improve light levels to garden by hedge cutting as firm as possible, the sides to match the profile of the lower growth, and reduce height by 1-1.5m, possibly reducing the English Yew by 2m. T1 - Ash (Fraxinus Excelsior) - Reduce crown height and lateral spread by approximately 1-2m around the perimeter of the canopy, pruning back to suitable growth points. - All pruning cuts must be made at suitable branch junctions, leaving sufficient live growth to maintain or enhance crown form.
