Planning application
P14/V3053/TCA
Church Cottage, Wytham, Oxon, OX2 8QA
Proposal
5 x Leylandii Cypress The group of five Leyland cypress are already too large for the space and are going to continue to develop for some years to come. They have reached early maturity but could easily become at least 25% taller than they presently are. Because they are planted as a group their overall bulk will continue to increase. This will affect the cottage, and will also affect the deciduous trees that lie to the south of the site. There is a good, well developed, semi mature white mulberry which will continue to grow and develop into an interesting tree but at the moment it is at risk of being suppressed, and spoiled, by encroachment from the conifers. The existing group of conifers offer little aesthetic value to the garden. They offer little contribution to the conservation area and the overall street scene. My recommendation would be to remove them. I suggest that we consider replanting with more suitable deciduous trees that would contribute more to the surrounding environment. Remarks:

About trees applications
How this application type works
Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.
