Proposal

Various remedial works to trees. The site is densely planted with many trees. This management plan has been produced in order to help the new owners maintain and manage their tree stock appropriately. It is therefore a long term plan - with urgent, intermediate and long term works. The owners would like to submit this management plan so that they can start to manage the site over the next few years. Ideally over the next 8 years (2014 - 2022). We would like to have to avoid having to apply for consent every time a tree requires management. Only the management recommendations without this report are required. If additional work needs to be done as a result of unforeseen circumstances in the futre (storm damage etc) then a new Section form will be completed. Please see pages 14, 15 and 16 for details of the work required. Urgent Arboricultural Works T2 - Holly - remove to ground level. TG1 - Hawthorns - Sever Ivy, head back overhanging branches suppressing T3. T26 - Wild Plum - Girdle Ivy T29 - Silver Birch - Remove stake and tie at base TG3 - Wild Plums - Girdle ivy, crown clean. T31 - Weeping Willow - Crown clean. T34 - Weeping Willow - crown clean. T37 - Beech - lift and transplant elsewhere. T38 - Horse Chestnut - Remove northern limb. T39 - Beech - lift and transplant elsewhere. T40 - Beech - lift and transplant elsewhere. T46 - Sycamore - remove stem on east. TG5 - Yew - remove. T66 - Norway Spruce - fell and replace with a small Beech Tree. S1 - Spindle - restoration prune or coppice to ground level. T32 - Horse Chestnut - reduce back eastern limb. T43 - Weeping Willow - crown clean. T45 - Lawson Cypress - remove to ground level. T47 & T48 - Apple - Restoration prune. T51 - Sycamore - consider removal. T52 - Lawson Cypress - remove. T61 - Lawson Cypress - monitor. T64 - Lawson Cypress - fell. T74 - Wild Plum - Girdle ivy. Long Term Arboricultural Works T25 - Upright Hornbeam - clear lateral branches away from overhead power lines as they grow. T30 - Alder - crown clean. T31 - Weeping Willow - reduce by 30% T33 - Laburnum - Remove as part of future landscaping. T34 - Weeping Willow - reduce by 30%. T70 - Horse Chestnut - reduce in height - retaining a bole for a wildlife habitat. T76 - Western Red Cedar - Monitor with a view to replacing in 5 years time.     The single dead Cherry tree is shown as "C" in a red circle on the Sketchmap provided. For reasons of safety before autumn storms, the crown now needs to be reduced by removal of the lateral branches to a residual limb length of c. 1 metre above main unions, creating a branched monolith (of about 4-5m height) . This is a wildlife-friendly alternative to complete removal. The trunk already has ivy growth, and the tree will continue to provide potential harbourage for wood-boring insects, other invertebrates, birds and smal mammals. Arborists have indicated that the standing dead tree should remain stable for several years as a monolith. Stability will be checked annually. The lopped branches will be cut into manageable pieces to make a habitat pile in a designated area of the churchyard. N.B. There is no Tree Preservation Order in force for this tree or any other tree in the chuchyard.
