Proposal
All work discussed on site with Tim Stringer on 15th July 2013. Area of trees at rear of 23 Brookview. Removal of 2 x Beech trees in copse of 6, crown lift remaining 4 Beech trees. Trees are causing excessive shading in housing. Removal of low amenity value and overgrown hedging in area between Brookview nd Nature Reserve at south west corner of Richmond Village. Overgrown hedging such as Alder and Hawthorne. Removal of self seeding saplings of Ash and Lime trees. Crown lifting of existing tree line. Existing tree line needs hedging thinned out to encourage better tree growth. Removal of all overgrown hedging and saplings in area of copse between Pavillion Walk ans South Street. On north side of Richmond Village. All work to be carried out over next 3 years between Jan 2014 & Jan 2017. Some re-planting in 2016/2017 in both areas. Remarks:

The single dead Cherry tree is shown as "C" in a red circle on the Sketchmap provided. For reasons of safety before autumn storms, the crown now needs to be reduced by removal of the lateral branches to a residual limb length of c. 1 metre above main unions, creating a branched monolith (of about 4-5m height) . This is a wildlife-friendly alternative to complete removal. The trunk already has ivy growth, and the tree will continue to provide potential harbourage for wood-boring insects, other invertebrates, birds and smal mammals. Arborists have indicated that the standing dead tree should remain stable for several years as a monolith. Stability will be checked annually. The lopped branches will be cut into manageable pieces to make a habitat pile in a designated area of the churchyard. N.B. There is no Tree Preservation Order in force for this tree or any other tree in the chuchyard.
