What a grant of permission means

The process from here

Permission has been granted, usually subject to conditions listed on the decision notice, some of which must be discharged before work starts. The decision notice on the council portal sets out exactly what was approved.

Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses. Neighbours cannot appeal a grant; challenging one means judicial review of how the decision was made, within tight time limits.

About amendments applications

How this application type works

An amendment application changes a permission that already exists. Non-material amendments cover small adjustments with no wider effect, while minor material amendments, usually made by varying a condition, allow modest design changes without a fresh application. Anything beyond that needs a new permission, so the scope here is deliberately narrow.

TPO849 T1 Proposed Works to TPO Protected Red Cedar A crown reduction of a mature Red Cedar (approximately 16 metres in height). A reduction in overall tree height of approximately 20%, equating to 3.0-3.5 metres, reducing the tree from approximately 16 metres to 12.5-13 metres in height. Selective reduction and trimming of the lateral branches to maintain the tree's natural form, symmetry and attractive appearance following the height reduction. All pruning works will be carried out in accordance with good arboricultural practice, retaining the tree's character and ensuring a balanced crown structure. Reason for the Proposed Works The tree is located on an embankment adjacent to a well-used public footpath and in close proximity to neighbouring residential gardens. The crown has continued to expand and branches now extend over our property, where previous growth has already displaced and damaged guttering on the house. Maintain public safety along the adjacent footpath. Reduce the risk of branch failure affecting neighbouring properties and gardens. Prevent further encroachment onto our property and damage to the house and guttering. Retain the long-term health, stability and amenity value of the tree while managing its size appropriately for its location.
