What a grant of permission means

The process from here

Permission has been granted, usually subject to conditions listed on the decision notice, some of which must be discharged before work starts. The decision notice on the council portal sets out exactly what was approved.

Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses. Neighbours cannot appeal a grant; challenging one means judicial review of how the decision was made, within tight time limits.

About trees applications

How this application type works

Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.

G1) Cypress x6 (Pinus sylvestris) Tree overhanging outbuilding & children's play area Section fell all to ground level, using heavy rigging equipment to safely lower all timber. Trees to be removed due to same species coming down in a recent storm - trees are very tall and thin with high wind sails. T1) Copper Beech (Fagus sylvatica) Major decay present at approx 1m from tree base going up 3m towards the crown break. Decay present on the tension side of the tree. Risk of potential failure recommended to remove ASAP Section fell to ground level, using heavy rigging equipment to safely lower all timber. NOTE: Tree has declined significantly since previous inspection In December 2024, with large holes created from woodpeckers. G2) Trees by front of lawn (front garden) Crown thin by approximately 15-20% to allow for more light onto lawn, encouraging future growth All tree work as part of continued maintenance, personal safety and best practices.

Oak Tree 9 (T9) as shown on page 21 of the attached arborist report. The report states that 'T9, is in very poor condition, by way of both basal decay and the effects of truncation caused by an historic topping operation' [Page 15]. 'Tree 9 is in a poor condition with a significantly reduced safe useful life expectancy. It should be inspected annually but will need to be removed sooner rather than later, within five years' [Page 16]. Therefore, we are seeking permission to fell the tree and replace with an English Oak in the same location.
