Works: Trees
Permission granted. Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses.
Proposal
T1: Conifer (Cupressocyparis leylandii) located on the boundary of the rear garden. The tree has recently had a large limb fail in storm Eunice which has left a large wound 3-4m up the trunk. The snapped-out limb was growing from a previous wound on the tree which now leaves 2 wounds on the east-side of the trunk. First one at 3-4m high and a second one from that point right down to ground level. On inspection, the terrain/elevation where the tree is growing from and the fact that the canopy is weighted over neighbouring properties and there are now 2 wounds on the east-side of the trunk which is structurally the most integral side of the tree. In order to retain the tree for the future, I would suggest the following:- Reduce and shape the canopy by approximately 3-4m in height and evenly reduce the lateral spread by 2-3m. Removing the broken branch attached and still hanging in the canopy and any major deadwood over 50mm. This will take considerable weight out of the canopy and should make for a safer tree.

The process from here
Permission has been granted, usually subject to conditions listed on the decision notice, some of which must be discharged before work starts. The decision notice on the council portal sets out exactly what was approved.
Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses. Neighbours cannot appeal a grant; challenging one means judicial review of how the decision was made, within tight time limits.
About trees applications
How this application type works
Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.
