5 Ogden Road Bramhall Stockport SK7 1HJ

Granted Stockport DC/086744 Works To Trees Covered By A TPO

Works: Trees

Permission granted. Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses.

Proposal

Work to Horse Chesnut Tree which is on the right hand border of our front garden (as you look from the road) A large branch came down last winter and landed in our front garden. Our Tree Man has advised us that he thinks that the tree is dead or dying and should be removed. We are worried that it is dangerous as it overhangs the footpath, street lamp and our neighbours drive. HAR/CA34, TPO 117W.

What a grant of permission means

The process from here

Permission has been granted, usually subject to conditions listed on the decision notice, some of which must be discharged before work starts. The decision notice on the council portal sets out exactly what was approved.

Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses. Neighbours cannot appeal a grant; challenging one means judicial review of how the decision was made, within tight time limits.

About trees applications

How this application type works

Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.

There is currently a laburnum tree being choked by ivy on the right border (when facing property from the road) in the rear garden of the property that we wish to remove as it may impede laying of, and onward structural integrity of foundations for a proposed extension (plans not yet submitted). Following a visit from a structural engineer to review whether an extension may be feasible, the engineer advised that the laburnum tree would be best removed if works were to go ahead. Neighbours on the bordering boundary have already been advised of our intention to remove the tree and have no issue with us submitting this application and moving ahead with remove if approved. This planning application is being submitted as the property on which the tree sits is in the Syddal Green Conservation area. HAR/CA34

Pine - removal - tree species is very big for narrow back garden location. Difficult species to crown reduce to control size / maintenance. Concidering the garden has an other established tree and smaller stock we felt the removal was justified if tree was replaced with something smaller. HAR/CA36.
