Planning application

21 Athol Road Bramhall Stockport SK7 1BR

Granted Stockport DC/079834 Tree Works In A Conservation Area

Works: Trees

Permission granted. Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses.

Proposal

Conifer approximately 10 metres tall is to be removed because it blocks too much light and is also wind damaged on higher branches. We will plant another tree either in the same spot or further at the back of the garden depending on advice from the tree surgeon we use. A second conifer approximately 6m tall we would like to reduce to 2 metres tall. Both are in the back garden at the rear of the property. HAR/CA34

What a grant of permission means

The process from here

Permission has been granted, usually subject to conditions listed on the decision notice, some of which must be discharged before work starts. The decision notice on the council portal sets out exactly what was approved.

Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses. Neighbours cannot appeal a grant; challenging one means judicial review of how the decision was made, within tight time limits.

About trees applications

How this application type works

Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.

Removal of conifers at the front to be replaced by much more attractive small bushes and flowering plants providing an English Cottage Garden instead of the sterile conifers. This will provide a frontage that is better aligned to other front gardens on Ogden Road and will brighten up the road. Other existing trees will be preserved. Please see the attached document with photographs. HAR/CA34.

Pine - removal - tree species is very big for narrow back garden location. Difficult species to crown reduce to control size / maintenance. Concidering the garden has an other established tree and smaller stock we felt the removal was justified if tree was replaced with something smaller. HAR/CA36.
