Proposal

Tree works schedule Willow-leaved Cotoneaster (Cotoneaster salicifolius) (T1) – Fell the whole tree/shrub to ground level and remove arisings. T1 is a mature, multi-stemmed ornamental Willow-leaved Cotoneaster within the rear garden of Weavers Cottage. It is approximately 7.5 m high with a crown spread of approximately 7–8 m, with several stems exceeding 75 mm diameter measured at approximately 1.5 m above ground level. Reason for works: The Cotoneaster has become substantially overgrown and tree-like in scale and occupies a significant area adjacent to the garden boundary. Removal is proposed to assist with the ongoing management and maintenance of the garden, including reducing the accumulation of leaves and berries on adjoining areas. The specimen originated as an ornamental garden shrub and is not considered to be of particular arboricultural, historic or designed-landscape significance, or to make a material contribution to the setting of the Grade II listed building or the character and appearance of the Great Milton Conservation Area. Replacement planting: No replacement tree is proposed. T1 is an overgrown ornamental shrub rather than a specimen of particular arboricultural or landscape significance. Its removal forms part of selective garden management rather than wider clearance. The established garden vegetation and existing rubble-stone boundary wall will be retained, maintaining the established planted character and setting of Weavers Cottage. Ecological precautions: Removal will, where practicable, be undertaken outside the main bird-nesting season. If undertaken during the nesting season, an appropriate check for active nests will be carried out before removal.
