During inspection, it was noted that soil has been built up around the base of the stems above the natural root flare, which may be concealing basal decay. In addition, both trees are exhibiting signs of physiological stress, including crown decline and secondary branch dieback. Given their location adjacent to areas of public access and nearby structures, the trees present an elevated risk to people and property. Pollarding is therefore recommended to achieve a significant reduction in crown weight, allowing the trees to be retained while reducing the level of risk to an acceptable level.
