T1 - Willow tree Findings The Willow tree is growing adjacent to the western boundary of Old School House, Great Haseley. The tree is a mature specimen which has an overall height of 15m. The tree has a clear stem of 3.5m above ground level (agl) whereby the main stem sub-divides with 1 x limb growing in an easterly direction and 1 x limb growing in a westerly direction with the eastern stem supporting the canopy of the tree. Observations taken from ground level note that between 7m and 9m agl on the eastern co-dominant stem decay is present with 3 x woodpecker holes also observed. Bark lifting along this limb is also present. The western stem has been recorded at a length of 5m with no canopy present. Significant areas of decay along the entire length of the branch have been observed from ground level. Conclusions The Willow tree has two main scaffold limbs at 3.5m agl. The western co-dominant stem has been recorded as having no canopy present with significant decay noted along the entire length of this limb. The presence of the woodpecker holes on the eastern co-dominant stem indicate that internal decay is present within this limb. In addition decayed areas on the outer side of this limb and bark lifting have also been recorded. It has been concluded that the structural integrity of the eastern co-dominant limb has been significantly compromised due to the decay that is present and the canopy weight above the dysfuncitonal area. Consideration for undertaken pruning works have been however in this instance it is recommended to remove this tree and to undertake replacement planting. Recommendations It is recommended that the Wilow tree is felled within 2 months from the date of this report. Please note a Notificaiton for the trees works is required to be submitted to SODC. It is further recommended to undertake replacement planting so as to ensure the continuation of tree cover within Great Haseley's conservation area. Remarks:
