Proposal

Large Horse Chestnut located front left when facing the house with back to road. The application is to have the tree felled. There are three primary reasons for the application: -The criss-crossing multi stem nature of the tree has resulted in branches of significant size growing over the property at #4 which provide a substantial safety risk to the house (see photos). There has previously been damage caused to the roof of the house resulting in water damage to the property. -The historic pruning of the tree, by the previous owners, has left a central well that has resulted in water ingress into the base of the tree weakening its structure. This has led to cracking in the stems, with several vertical ribs forming as a result. This reduced structural strength has increased the risk of a large stem falling on or towards the property and vehicles. - The tree's roots have caused significant structural damage (see photos) to the boundary brick and flint wall that has historic conservation status that accompanies the listed cottages, numbers 5-16 Hop Gardens. Without removal of the tree the wall will become a safety risk to pedestrians and vehicles and eventually a loss to the conservation area. In addition to the above: -The tree suffers from horse chestnut leaf blotch (see photo). - Telephone cables are strung through the tree canopy (see photo) which are at risk should branches get damaged or fall. - The removal of the tree will facilitate off street parking helping to ease the on-street parking pressure that affects Hop Gardens and Badgemore Primary School further along Hop Gardens. - A replacement tree will be planted in the rear garden ensuring the net loss of trees is zero.
