Proposal

T1 - Ash - The first tree north of the metal gate is a multi-stemmed ash with rotting remains of fruiting bodies at its base which I believe belong to the wood decaying fungus Cerioporus squamosus. Two of this tree's stems lean across the footpath towards Box Tree Cottage and, given the presence of wood-decaying fungi, heavy lean and likelihood of ash dieback infection, I recommend these two stems are removed. G1 - Further north up the footpath, approximately two thirds up the plot boundary, opposite Box Tree Cottage's garden sheds, there are three sycamore with extensive basal decay. Two of these are large multi-stemmed specimens while the worst decayed middle tree is smaller and single- stemmed (photograph 3). Given their bias across the footpath and towards the property opposite, these three trees should be felled low to ground level, retaining the coppice stools if possible. The middle tree described above should be removed as soon as practically possible to pre-empt its failure. T2- North again, just beyond the sycamores described above, is a single-stemmed ash which in the gusty weather had an unusual, uneven sway which I interpreted as suggestive of stem decay (photograph 4). There are cavities at approximately 5 metres above ground level which would appear to have good habitat potential. I suggest the canopy of this tree, which looks to be in poor condition anyway, is removed to leave a monolith of up to 7 metres height. This will have the double effect of retaining habitat while removing any hazard posed.
