  T1 - Cedar - this is the larger of the two trees that together, form a communal crown. Ground level external visual inspection of the base and root plate area show nothing of note. From the ground based observation numerous splits and torn out branches were noted. Major structural unions also exhibit signs of swelling and bulging associated with internal fractures, hazard beams and torsional splits typical in certain typres of Cedar of which these are possibly cultivars with inherent genetic weakness. The overall form noted from the ground based indicates the loss of the leader historically. During the climbing inspection to look at structural condition more closely, in order to gauge the nature of defects, it was observed that the leader had been lost historically, and the subsequent regrowth has led to a multileader form with a poor union that has attempted to fuse above the previous failure point. Integrity of the fusion could not be gauged although given its size and age of the failure; it is assumed the fusion is sound. Throughout the climbing inspection numerous split unions, tear out wounds and historically failed branches were observed throughout the canopy, although no meaningful remedial work has been carried out to mitigate these breakages. Some historical work indicated excessive internal thinning in places. The climbing inspection has shown that the crown has good vitality throughout with expected future levels of yearly extension growth. Option 1: Carry out canopy reduction with the goal being to create an even taper and end weight reduction of all over developed limbs by approximately 2-3m on selected laterals, with other laterals reduced by 1.0m to achieve crown balance. Option 2: Carry out dynamic non-invasive bracing of upper leaders to assist natural fusion of poor union. T2 - Cedar - The smaller of the two trees that form a communal crown. A ground level visual inspection of the base and root plate area show nothing of note. From a ground based observation, numerous splits and torn out branches were observed. Major structural unions also exhibit signs of swelling and bulging associated with internal fractures, hazard beams and torsional splits typical of certain types of Cedars, of which these are possibly cultivars with inherent genetic weakness. Also noted during the ground based inspection is multi leader form that is potentially either caused by loss of leader through inclement weather or historical pruning works. Upon carrying out the climbing inspection it was noted, much like its sister tree, that there are numerous defects such as torn out branches at unions, hazard beams and spiral fractures. The multi-leader form shows no sign of what caused this growth habit. All unions appeared sound and stable. Carry out canopy reduction with the goal being to create even taper and end weight reduction of all overdeveloped limbs by approximately 2-3m on selected lateals with other laterals reduced by 1.0m to achieve crown balance.
