Proposal

T1 - Red Oak - Reduce crown height by approximately 4m whilst retaining the main framework of the crown. Evenly reduce lateral spread by approximately 4m around the perimeter of the canopy. Pruning cuts should not exceed one third of that of the parent stem or branch. The cuts should be made distal to a union or group of unions where one or more healthy lateral branches bear enough foliage to sustain the parent stem or branch. Lift crown to a height of 4m above ground level by a combination of removing branch tips and removing smaller branches (ie. less than 50mm diameter) back to source. Crown clean to remove deadwood and weak branches and carry out an aerial inspection to assess crown health. Monitor annually the progress of the bleeding canker to assess the impact this is having on overall tree health. If it continues, carry out sampling using a laboratory kit to confirm diagnosis of Phytophthora or otherwise. Consider carrying out further decay testing to ascertain integrity of the stem.
