Decided South Oxfordshire P17/S4787/TCA Works to trees in CA

Works: Trees

Decided. The decision notice on the council portal carries the outcome in full, including any conditions.

Proposal

T1 - Silver Birch G2 - Beech T3 - Prunus spp T4 - Hornbeam T5 - Cherry T1 - Silver Birch - located close to garage. Single stem with well-formed crown above, no major defects noted. Laterals to NE overhang and in contact with garage roof. Low laterals impeding garden maintenance. Recommended works: General manageent: Reduce laterals over garage to provide 1-1.5m clearance. Crown lift sub-branches to give 2m clearance of lawn area. G2 - Beech - linear group of Beech, consisting of 4 stems forming a boundary screen. Previously reduced to approximately 3m in height, now with 1-1.5m regrowth above. Stem next to garage close grown with lateals in contact with roof and gutter. Recommended works: General management: remove stem next to garage to just above ground level. Reduce height back to previous points and lateral spread both sides to contain. T3 - Prunus Spp - Small garden variety with spreading crown form. Climbing rose growing up stem and into crown. No works at present. T4 - Hornbeam - Close grown to rear boundary, with NE laterals overhanging neighbouring garden. Multi-stemmed from basal fork, with upright crown form above. NW sub-stem removed just above main fork creating an aysummetrical crown form. No major defects noted. No works required at present due to its location and growth habit. T5 - Cherry - Close grown to rear boundary. Main fork at 1m with spreading crown form above. Some remedial works now advised. General management: crown reduce height by 1m and lateral spread by 1.5-2m. Remarks:

About trees applications

How this application type works

Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.

5 x Willow trees 1 x Walnut tree Reduce height and crown of 5 Willow trees to 50% of current size. Fell Walnut tree and replace with smaller, more manageable ornamental tree with smaller root system. The Walnut tree needs to be felled, because it is within 4 metres of our garage and I suspect it may soon be affecting its foundations. The spread of the tree is already such that it touches the roof of the garage and, if not substantially cut back, every year, would by now have grown into the roof structure. It is, in short, too large for the space which it occupies. Remarks:

T2 Olive - Reducing the height and spread of the tree by up to 1 metre. G3 Pleached Hornbeam X3 - Reduce the height of the line of trees by up to 1.25⿯m and prune the side growth by up to 0.5⿯m. G4 Magnolia x3 - Reducing the height and spread of the tree by up to 1.5 metre T6 Silver Birch - Fell to ground level. G7 Silver Birch x4 - Fell the trees nearest the garage and the second tree in from the gate to ground level. Crown reduce the two remaining trees by up to 1.5⿯m in height to achieve a more uniform appearance. These works are planned as part of the regular maintenance of the garden. The removal of the three Silver Birch trees is due to their unsuitable planting locations. Removing these trees will allow the remaining trees to establish more effectively and improve the overall amenity value of the garden.
