Proposal

T1 - Large Chestnut T1 - Large Chestnut adjacent to play area. The tree was reported to have lost a limb on 19.6.17. We attended the site on 20.6.17 to clear up and make safe. A climbing inspection was carried out at the time of the clear up and the following recommendations made: The lost limb appears to have fallen victim to Summer Branch Drop, an inexplicable event where a mature tree loses a limb for no apparent reason. There was very minimal signs of any defects at the point of failure and the branch was not over-extended. However, the tree does show signs of bleeding canker and there are numerous unions throughout the canopy that have included bark and compression forks, both types of potentially weak junctions. At some stage the tree had a triple steel cable bracing system installed. It is unclear whether it has been purposefully cut or torn by the tree, but the system is now completely disconnected and no replacement bracing has been installed. The tree is a large, mature specimen with a very high value target zone and as such presents a high risk. I recommend the tree is subjected to a whole canopy reduction of 15% of crown volume and a minor crown thin of approximately 10%. All final cuts to be made at suitable points of secondary live growth and the final shape to be a naturalistic, rounded form. All resultint debris to be removed from the site. I also recommend a replacement brace is installed in the form of a non-invasive Cobra system including all three main stems. Reason for the above works: Health and safety reasons. Remarks: Spec:
