Decided South Oxfordshire P17/S4516/TCA Works to trees in CA

Works: Trees

Decided. The decision notice on the council portal carries the outcome in full, including any conditions.

Proposal

1 x Leyland Cypress 1 x Yew T1 - Leyland Cypress. This tree is approximately 40 feet tall and causes excessive shading of the greenhouse and lawn area. It completely dominates the upper area of the garden. Description of works: tree to be removed and replaced by an apple tree (an approx 6 ft eating apple). T2 - Yew. This tree has grown to overwhelm the lower part of the garden causing a large barren area. It also heavily shades the greenhouse. The tree is about 9 metres tall and is about 7 metres in diameter (ie. horizontal spread). Description of works: reduce the volume of the crown of the tree to half its current spread and height keeping a good shaped crown ball which will rapidly produce new growth. Remarks:

About trees applications

How this application type works

Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.

Tree 1. Laurel tree. We want to remove this tree. The tree is out of character with the area and the garden and it threatens the dividing wall between us and our neighbour. Tree 2 Yew tree. We want to reduce the size of this tree from 6 metre canopy diameter to 3 metre canopy diameter. This tree overly dominates the garden and the greenhouse and the veg plot, making the whole area very dark. Treework 3 Sketch. This shows the layout of the garden (between the Ridgeway Footpath and the River Thames). Tree 1 and Tree 2 are clearly marked.

T1 - Yew T1 - Yew - remove canopy above regenerating stem to allow natural and balanced crown to develop. Existing crown is two dimensional due to suppression by over-mature robinia (long since felled). This proposal was approved on site by Matt Gulliford last year. Remarks: Spec:
