Proposal
T1 - Walnut T1 - Walnut - fell to ground level and replace with a new "Heavy Standard" tree of medium to large ultimate height, further back in the garden where the position will be more suitable for the enjoyment and use of the garden. The Walnut tree has outgrown its situation. It is an early mature tree with multiple stems from 0.5m hieight. As a result, it has a large spreading form which dominates the small garden in which it stands. The homeowner finds the tree very oppressive and as she lives alone, the work involved in managing the tree and clearing up the leaves and debris shed from it each year is a real burden upon her. The tree was recently pruned by reducing back some of the smaller lateral branches, but this has only led to a proliferation of growth from each cut point - meaning that the leaf area during the summer months is more dense than ever before. The tree has a high growth potential which means that the excessive shading and problems faced by the owner are only going to magnify as it matures. At some time in the future, this tree will definitely outgrow this small rear town garden and so its removal is inevitably going to have to be addressed at some time. Mrs Baird would like to remove it now so that she can enjoy her garden in her retirement rather than have the considerable worry and burden of this tree's management. It is considered that it would be appropriate to remove it now before it becomes too large so that a new tree can be planted approximately 10m further away which will grow in harmony with the garden and surrounding properties and benefit the future generations for longer than this walnut will be able to do. Whilst the tree appears dominant in an aerial photo of the site, it's visual amenity within the Conservation Area is only actually limited to the properties immediately surrounding this garden and two brief public glimpses of the tree - one as you walk down Church Street and one viewed from between a gap in properties on Chapel Street. In both situations, it is soon hidden by the houses lining each street again. As mentioned, a new tree would be planted to replace it (but slightly further away in the rear garden), so that the tree cover in Watlington would be continued and the local area would not be devoid of tree cover.
