  To either remove the lower branch of the silver birch (as shown in enclosed photos) or remove small stems along branch; to allow light and growth - space for (up to 5) koster oaks planted below, in the hedge. As I explained on the phone, we've just planted x5 quercus koster to replace x2 silver birch removed as part of planning application for a garage at no.33 Oxford Road. (We've planted x3 extra in forward planning, as the 2 remaining birch on our land (no.27) will only last another 5-10 years. We want the quercus to grow up before that happens. The branch shown on doc 2, lower, growing at a right angle to the tree is the one we would like to remove/trim. This will enable the 2 koster quercus to grow properly from below.   The Silver Birch is approx 90 years old. We want to preserve this tree in good condition for as long as possible. The top has a "Y" shape, formed from x 2 main branches. Our Arborist has advised that it needs a tree brace fitting to prevent one or both top sections from splitting apart. He has noted a mark in the bark in the "join" of the trunk which indicates this may happen.
