Proposal

T1 - Beech - Management Options and their viability/long term solutions: Option 1: Reduce overall canopy by 2-2.5m back to sub dominant growth. This is the maximum regarded viable canopy reduction without causing decay ingress and other possible dysfunctions i.e. sun scorch, poor form etc. Comments: This option provides minimal increased light and will need repeating every five to seven years. It does not significantly address the issues of the residents. Option 2: Canopy thinning. BS3998:2010 does advocate that even a 30% canopy thin is possible. This will allow dappled light to come through the tree and could be combined with Option 3 to improve light levels by around 25%. Comments: Works will require repeating every five to seven years. It does not significantly increase the desire of increased light of the residents of Old Stocks. Option 3: Canopy lifting and selective branch removal possibly combined with Option 2. Increase of light levels to 30%. Comment: This could be regarded as a partial improvement. Option 4: replacement planting of 3 x Heavy Standard trees (Fern Leaf Beech, Fastigiate Oak and Hickory) regarded as high amenity value species with good longevity and contribution to the landscape. Felling of Beech tree. Comments: Avoids regular pruning management, addresses all issues of occupants and neighbours, improves light and potential risk and provides long term solution with increased arboricultural portfolio in locality for the next 150 years. T1 Beech Spec: S15 Fell tree to ground level. Spec: S20 1 Fern Leaf Beech 16-18cm Girth, 1 Fastigiate Oak 16-18cm Girth and 1 Hickory 16-18cm Girth
