  The Doctors House, Little Milton

  T1 - Robinia - Fell to ground level. This tree is large, fully mature and has advanced decay in the lower stem and below ground level. Photo 1 and 3 show the base of the tree with a broad strip of necrotic and missing bark. Beyond this are openings into a large area of soft decayed wood and empty space. The cavity extends upwards to at least 1.25 metres, below ground to at least 20 centimetres and a steel probe can be inserted to a depth of 80 centimetres diametrically at ground level. The stem diameter at this point is around 105 centimetres. There are bootlaces of Honey Fungus present and also a brown rot. The tree stands beside the main road and power lines. See Photo 2. T2 - Robinia - Fell to ground level. This tree is also large and fully mature/over mature. Photos 4, 5, & 6 show the lower stem of the tree with bifurcation at around 1 metre. This tree also has advanced decay in the lower stem and below ground level. A discreet opening in a buttress leads to a large area of decayed and missing wood. Photo 4 shows a steel probe pushed 85cm into the stem at ground level. The stem diameter at ground level is 145cm. On the opposite face of the stem there is a broad strip of dead, missing and decayed bark and wood. The decay present on this face of the stem coaleesces with the decayed area that can be probed from the opposite side. Furthermore, a steel probe can be inserted vertically downwards through the stem union into the same decayed union. This indicates that there is very little tension wood holding these two stems together. Therer is a steel cable fitted between these stems at a higher point which is presumably taking much of the load. Photo 7 shows the proximity of the tree to the house. The tree owner is willing to replant with new trees. Specification for the planting is yet to be decided. G1 The group consisting of 4 Limes Spec: S15 Fell tree to ground level.   T1 - Robinia - fell to ground level. This tree has produced Laetiporus sulphureus brackets over the summer months. There is severe basal decay. A metal probe can be inserted through the decayed buttres area at ground level to about 1 metre. The stem diameter at this point is only a little over 1 metre. The tree is at risk of being windblown and the main road A329 is within falling distance of the tree. This tree was flagged up as a cause for concern by one of your tree officers when he visited to inspect other works for which we were applying for consent earlier in the summer.
