Proposal

T1 - Horse Chestnut Tree My contractor (Lloyd's Tree Services) came today to carry out the work that you have previously agreed, but on climbing the tree, he discovered an additional problem that had not been spotted on his earlier visit. On the same trunk, just a few feet above the major branch that was to be reduced (i.e. at about 20' in height), he discovered an old wound in the trunk (see attached photo). He inspected this closely and found that the wood within the wound is not good an that overall, thre is less than a third of good wood across the diameter of the trunk. This he considers to be another likely risk of failure at some point and he has recommended that the crown of that trunk should also be reduced by 2.5 to 3 metres, to reduce the weight and wind stress. In view of this additional finding he decided not to carry out the other work today, whilst I sought your approval to this additional work. He wants to be sure that agreement is in place for the total reduction (i.e. that already approved, plus thus this work), so that appropriate balancing of the crown can be carried out at the same time. His view was that some modest reduction of the crown would be necessary to balance the crown for aesthetic reasons. This wound is visible from the road and if you would like to come and make your own visual assessment, I would be happy to meet you there. If you require any additional information, please let me know. I hope that it will be possible to get agreement to this, to enable the work to go ahead later next week. Remarks:
