Planning application

Ledard, off Rotherfield Road, Henley-on-Thames

Granted South Oxfordshire P14/S4702/TPO Works to TPO

Works: Trees

Permission granted. Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses.

Proposal

Douglas Fir Tree - carry out crown clean, recover suspended limb, reduce over-lateral limbs, lower canopy only. I wish to gain council approval for carrying out a crown clean on a Douglas Fir Tree. The tree is situated to the south western boundary of Ledard Cottage, and just inside the boundary from the carriageway (Peppard Lane). The tree itself is a good example of its species, showing normal vigour. There is a suspended limb, probably from the storms we encountered a few months ago. There is deadwood evident, with a few snags to be cleaned up. My client would like the lower canopy lateral limbs to be reduced by 1 metre, to gain more natural light. My client considers the tree of a high amenity value, which is vital to the landscape. Therefore I propose to carry out a crown clean, including removing deadwood snags, and recover the suspended limb. I also propose to reduce the lower canopy laterals by approx 1 metre. This will leave a balanced canopy, gaining more light around the garden and house.

Ash (T2 of TPO 09/2019) - Reduce back crown over single storey block D4 by a maximum of 4m at its widest point (work mainly relates to over extended limbs over roof). Reduce back low branches over the roof to create 3m clearance. Cutback branches from front of the adjacent building (D6) to create 2-3m clearance. To help balance the crown, reduce remaining crown by approx. 2m. To avoid altering the balance of the tree as a whole, the crown of the tree should be reduced in proportion to its original shape. All pruning cuts must be made at branch junctions, leaving sufficient live growth to maintain or enhance crown form.
