The Manor House, Thame Road, Great Haseley, Oxford, OX44 7JY

Decided South Oxfordshire P14/S4528/TCA Works to trees in CA

Works: Trees Small domestic

Read from the description, not a valuation. How we read the register

Decided. The decision notice on the council portal carries the outcome in full, including any conditions.

Proposal

T1 - Lime Tree T2 - Horse Chestnut Gp 3 - Lime Avenue T1 - Lime tree - Pollard at 10-12 metres. Retain some lower growth pruned back to suitable points that will promote better crown shape. This tree is fairly exposed and leans towards adjacent property. There is concern that the tree or parts of it may fall on or near the property beneath. Also the main union at around 8 metres is poorly formed with included bark posing the risk of failure. T2 - Horse Chestnut - Raise crown to around 4.5 metres (height of arch with lamp). Remove all dead wood. Tip reduce growth over arch to give 1 metre clearance. Reduce low limb extended over boundary wall by around 2 metres to improve crown balance. This work is to improve the visual appeal of this tree in relation to surrounding walls and archway. Grp 3 - Lime Avenue (14 trees in all). These trees to be pruned to a unified geometric box shaped crown. They were planted and dsigned to be pruned to this specific shape. Remarks:

Gp 1 & Gp 2 - Lime T1-T18 - Limes T19-T23 - Beech Gp 3 - Hornbeam T23-T34 - Limes Gp 1 & Gp 2 - Limes - Annual pruning to maintain these two lines of Lime trees that are pruned annually as a cloud hedge either side of the driveway to the house. T1-T18 - Limes - crown lift each tree to 2.4m. These trees form two lines of planting designed to form an avenue through a geometrically designed garden where shape and form is important. T19-T23 - Beech - crown lift each tree to 2.4m to improve uniformity of trees in this garden for the reason given above for the Lime trees. Gp 3 - Hornbeam - crown lift to 2.4m. This work is to improve uniformity and to maintain light to the blocks of hedge below. T23-T34 - Limes - crown lift to 2.5m. These trees are planted and designed to have a formal look and the work specified is to maintain that appearance. The trees are also shading the blocks of hedging below and the crown lifting will also improve this. Remarks: Spec:

T1 - Horse Chestnut T1 - Horse Chestnut - fell to ground level as this tree has declined in health to the point where around 50% of the crown is now dead. The tree is infected with Bleeding Canker which seems to be the most significant problem. There is now the risk of dead branches breaking and falling from the tree. Remarks: Spec:

T1: Birch: Twin stemmed Birch with a crown break a couple of feet above ground level. This tree has had cobra bracing installed and has previously had a crown reduction undertaken due to the applicants concerns over its safety with its close proximity to their own and neighbouring properties and the high volume of pedestrians who walk past the house particularly during the school pick up and drop off timings. The applicant wishes to reduce the height of the tree by 4 metres, to a point just above the previous pruning points and the lateral branches by up to 1 metre. T2, T3 and T4: Birch: Applicant wishes to carry out a 2m crown reduction of all 3 trees. These trees were planted by the applicant on the basis that they would be maintained as small trees owing to the size of space in this area of the garden and the proximity of buildings.

There are two trees in the front garden Permission is requested to fell both trees. Tree 1 = Weeping Birch Tree Tree 2 = Maple Tree Weeping Birch (Tree 1) This has become too large for the site, the roots are lifting the paving around it, making it a trip hazard. Roots have also entered the nearby drains, causing problems. Permission is sought to fell the tree, to make safe access to the property and to make space on the driveway for off street parking. (There is a nearby primary school, and parking can be a challenge.) Maple (Tree 2) This tree has also become too big for its location, which is very close to the boundary of No. 5 and No. 7 Vicarage Rd, causing lifting of the paving around it. It is also very close to both houses. Permission is sought to fell this tree.
