T1 - Cedar of Lebanon T1 - Cedar of Lebanon - suffered substantial crown failures unbalancing the east side of the crown. I have reviewed the condition of this tree in light of the past information from our survey and the recent structural failures and I am now concerned that it presents a risk to persons and property. The tree stands within the Elms, a residential dwelling currently occupied by a tenant with free access beneath and around the tree. By virtue of its height and position the cedar could potentially affect both the landscaped area at the south east corner of the house and possibly the corner of the house albeit I think the lean is likely to prevent the house being struck (hence target score) but the surrounding garden of The Elms and land to the south where there is a general increase in activity born of the planning conent are targets with occupancy that demands action is taken. The tree has been a U category specimen for removal since our first assessment but it is situated outside of the application boundary so removal is not enabled by the applicaiton. I have undertaken a Threats risk assessment, the outcome of which requires intervention in advance of the timeframe for a TPO application to fell, so I am duty bound to give SODC 5 working days of the intention to fell. T1: Birch: Twin stemmed Birch with a crown break a couple of feet above ground level. This tree has had cobra bracing installed and has previously had a crown reduction undertaken due to the applicants concerns over its safety with its close proximity to their own and neighbouring properties and the high volume of pedestrians who walk past the house particularly during the school pick up and drop off timings. The applicant wishes to reduce the height of the tree by 4 metres, to a point just above the previous pruning points and the lateral branches by up to 1 metre. T2, T3 and T4: Birch: Applicant wishes to carry out a 2m crown reduction of all 3 trees. These trees were planted by the applicant on the basis that they would be maintained as small trees owing to the size of space in this area of the garden and the proximity of buildings.

There are two trees in the front garden Permission is requested to fell both trees. Tree 1 = Weeping Birch Tree Tree 2 = Maple Tree Weeping Birch (Tree 1) This has become too large for the site, the roots are lifting the paving around it, making it a trip hazard. Roots have also entered the nearby drains, causing problems. Permission is sought to fell the tree, to make safe access to the property and to make space on the driveway for off street parking. (There is a nearby primary school, and parking can be a challenge.) Maple (Tree 2) This tree has also become too big for its location, which is very close to the boundary of No. 5 and No. 7 Vicarage Rd, causing lifting of the paving around it. It is also very close to both houses. Permission is sought to fell this tree.
