Planning application

Northlea House, 66 Northfield End, Henley on Thames, Oxon, RG9 2JN

Decided South Oxfordshire P14/S4477/TCA Works to trees in CA

Works: Trees

Decided. The decision notice on the council portal carries the outcome in full, including any conditions.

Proposal

T1 - Sycamore T2 - Mixed Hedge T1 - Sycamore - remove one limb which crosses over the boundary from the neighbours property which is shading the newly planted specimens and the adjacent hedge. Diameter of branch is 6 inches T2 - Mixed Hedge - reducing the height of the hedge (Taxus and Laurel) so that it retains a managed sweeping taper (ie. not reduced to a formal hedge but trimmed back and down). Up to 1.2m (4 ft) was discussed being removed from the most extended tips of the Yew to reduce the height to the young regrowth which is on the side of the hedge. Slightly less will be removed from the tallest laurel and then significantly less further along the hedge. Remarks:

T1: Birch: Twin stemmed Birch with a crown break a couple of feet above ground level. This tree has had cobra bracing installed and has previously had a crown reduction undertaken due to the applicants concerns over its safety with its close proximity to their own and neighbouring properties and the high volume of pedestrians who walk past the house particularly during the school pick up and drop off timings. The applicant wishes to reduce the height of the tree by 4 metres, to a point just above the previous pruning points and the lateral branches by up to 1 metre. T2, T3 and T4: Birch: Applicant wishes to carry out a 2m crown reduction of all 3 trees. These trees were planted by the applicant on the basis that they would be maintained as small trees owing to the size of space in this area of the garden and the proximity of buildings.

There are two trees in the front garden Permission is requested to fell both trees. Tree 1 = Weeping Birch Tree Tree 2 = Maple Tree Weeping Birch (Tree 1) This has become too large for the site, the roots are lifting the paving around it, making it a trip hazard. Roots have also entered the nearby drains, causing problems. Permission is sought to fell the tree, to make safe access to the property and to make space on the driveway for off street parking. (There is a nearby primary school, and parking can be a challenge.) Maple (Tree 2) This tree has also become too big for its location, which is very close to the boundary of No. 5 and No. 7 Vicarage Rd, causing lifting of the paving around it. It is also very close to both houses. Permission is sought to fell this tree.
