  Horse Chestnut - 23m in height and 4.6m wide. Use drop crotching pruning techniques to ensure as much aesthetic character of the tree is retained. Reduce the upper leaders of the crown by 5-6m. Reduce the large upright limb to the south (mid crown) by 7-8m. Reduce remaining limbs as necessary at the discretion of the arborists carrying out the work. Where necessary use conservation dead wooding techniques over the footpath (shortening- not removal) Support the cracked lowest limb with a steel cable brace, so it can be retained in situ. Please note- the pruning amounts recommended are larger than we normally specify, but in this instance because of the extent of decay, it is thought the pruning work will enable the long-term retention of the tree as well as help alleviate safety concerns.
