Planning application

Bartonbury Rockshaw Road Merstham Surrey RH1 3BZ

Granted Reigate and Banstead 23/02385/CAN Conservation Area Notice

Works: Trees

Permission granted. Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses.

Proposal

The works involve digging a trench which will sever roots of a protected trees. The trench will be used for installing a root barrier between protected trees and the property which has been damaged by tree-root related subsidence. Details of the trench and barrier is provided in the arboricultural method statement in terms of the location of the trench, its distance from trees, its length and depth. Thus the reason for the application is tree-root related subsidence. If permission to install the barrier was denied an alternative means of resolving the subsidence issue will be required possibly an engineering solution. The costs associated with such a solution have yet to be determined but if implemented the associated costs may form the basis of a compensation claim under Regulation 24 of the Town and Country Planning (Tree Preservation) (England) Regulations 2012.
