T1 - ASh Fraxinus Excelsior This is a group of 5 small ash trees. They are self-seeded in the boundary hedge. They are growing over the property and starting to touch the roof. The crowns are looking sparse and showing signs of ash dieback. The car park is busy with people visiting residients and as the ash trees die they wll becombe dangerous. If one failed could cause injury or damage to properties. We would like to dismantle the trees to ground level and let the hedge grow in their place to keep the green aesthetics for both residents and neighbours.

Area Tree Preservation Order No: 1972.10.A1 - Monteray Cypress Area Tree Preservation Order No: 1973.09.A8 - Monteray Cypress The application concerns two Monterey Cypress trees which form a single canopy and which are both located in an adjacent property (Open Windows, Oxlea Road, Torquay) to the subject property of the this application. AT/2021/0197 Granted
Mount Stuart Hospital St Vincents Road Torquay TQ1 4UP
Mount stuart Hospital, Boundary Between Hospital Car Parking Area & St Vincent's Road; T1,T2,T3,T4 -X4 Mature Leylandii Cypress - Dismantle, fell & remove to ground level. Grind out stumps to below ground level to enable reinstatement & planting of a Griselinia hedge with approximately x4 heavy standard ornamental cherry trees in place of the current cypress trees. Remove all cut material from site & return to a Teign Trees depot for recycling, leaving the area safe, clean & tidy. Reasons for the proposed works; The trees are not a suitable or practical specie for their location. The trees are now, due to the main stem girth size's (including lower primary branches) encroaching onto the hospital car parking area causing regular damage to cars parking in the allotted spaces. Leylandii Cypress are fast growing & large trees therefore if not removed will compound this problem further in the near future. Remedial pruning will not solve or help this problem, leaving removal the only viable option. The car parking area at the hospital is already very congested due to limited spaces. The trees also cause excessive shading to the SW side of the hospital. Ramsey Health Care Ltd are very keen to replant a Griselinia Hedge along the boundary with x4 heavy standard ornamental cherry trees in place of the current cypress trees. between the hospital car park & St Vincent's Rd. The hedge will be encouraged & nurtured to grow to approximately x6 feet in height screening the hospital parking area.

AT/2021/0195 Granted
Flat 1 Hillsborough Hillesdon Road Torquay TQ1 1QF
T1:Oak tree semi mature. Approximate height of 10 meters. This tree has been reduced several times in the past to retain the height so that it doesn't block the light and view from the flats in the building. Requesting permission to reduce the tree by 1-2 meters back to where it has previously been done. T2; Multi stemmed Holm Oak, Mature, approx height of 20 meters. Part owned by 2 properties. This tree is multi stemmed with a large crown that grows over a garage, decking area and paths/steps. There's been a branch that's broken off over the winter that landed on the roof of the garden and caused damage and there is a massive issue with bird feces all over the paths, steps and handrails that leads up to the parking area and garages which is causing a hygiene problem as the residences rely heavily on these walkways and the handrails for support along with it being slippery under foot. The tree itself is has 12 stems some of which are very top heavy, after monitoring them in the wind there is a large degree of movement which will have to be managed. We are applying to reduce the height of the tree by 40-50% back to growth points where possible and remove the left hand limb so it doesn't overhang the pathways. This will retain the tree for the future as well as reducing the risk of anything happening to the tree and almost certainly remove the issue of bird feces.

(G1) - Holm Oak (Quercus ilex) removal because with support from tree survey completed by relevant expert the trees are in poor condition and also in poor structural condition. The trees have also obtained mechanical damage. Group 1 is also within very close proximity to the stone walling that runs around the perimeter of the property. Group 1 has also got a high risk of failure due to the lapsed regrowth from historic pollards. Group 1 is also positioned very close to a road with a high footfall due to it being very close to a primary school this therefore would mean that any failures could cause significant harm to people along with damaging the stone wall and vehicles parked below. Group 1 also has a significant number of basal cavity's. The customer has requested that permission for removal of group 1 is granted to allow them replant and establish a new row of trees. T1- Blue Atlas Cedar (Cedrus atlantica Glauca) - prune back long over extended lateral branches by up to 3 meters (as recommended by tree survey) and clean crown of dead/snapped branches. pruning back of the long over extended branches would be a means of preventative management decreasing the risk of failure which will make the tree more aesthetic for a longer period of time. over extended branches have a higher risk of failure. T2- Holm Oak (Quercus ilex)- End weight pruning of canopy extents by upto 2 meters leaving a canopy radius of 9 meters as a means of preventative management against small diameter branch breakage as over extended branches have a higher risk of failure. this will also allow other trees and shrubs space to grow and will make the tree more aesthetically pleasing.

Chilcote House 14 Manor Road Torquay TQ1 3JX
Failed retaining wall adjacent public highway. Part retrospective application - for root pruning. Part application for crown reduction. Recommendations: Do not cut any more of tree or roots over 2.5cm in diameter. Prune off small fibrous roots with sharp clean tool (such as secateurs) to minimise the size of the wound and reduce the possibility of decay pathogens gaining access to the roots. Cover exposed roots (including fine fibrous feeding roots) with hessian sack and wet to prevent further desiccation. Rebuild wall around tree shape and root form. Protect the roots from leachate with a polythene root barrier from base of foundation to level of tree mass. Undertake a crown reduction in height by 3m by drop crotching, reducing the lateral branches by 2m to leave a crown of a good form.
