Planning application

8 Romans Court Nottingham Nottingham City NG6 0HF

Refused Nottingham 23/00026/PTPO Works to trees protected by TPO

Works: Trees Small domestic

Read from the description, not a valuation. How we read the register

Refused. Only the applicant can appeal, within the statutory time limit, and a revised scheme can be submitted instead.

Proposal

Tree 8 on 1982 Tree Preservation Map. A lime tree. The tree is in the back garden of 8 Romans Court close to the fence backing on to Church Street. Reduce height by two metres, removing dead and damaged (by squirrels eating bark) branches at the top. There is a possibility that some branches could break loose. The tree is otherwise healthy and removing the top section will improve the shape of the tree and encourage growth in the lower section.

What refusal means

The process from here

The council refused this application for the reasons set out on the decision notice, which the council portal holds in full. Only the applicant can appeal a refusal; the time limit runs from the decision date and is shorter for householder schemes.

Refusal does not prevent a fresh attempt. Applicants often address the reasons for refusal and resubmit, so a refused scheme is not necessarily the end of proposals for the site.

About trees applications

How this application type works

Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.

T1 & T2 sycamore group - Property owners behind the university have complained the at tree is causing issues with shading and its size. The size of the tree is having an impact on the owners being able to enjoy the use of the rear garden as when in leaf there will be very little light. The tree is mature with a large crown and is located very close to the property, and some of the branches almost touch the roof. Works would be to framework pollard the tree reducing the height and lateral spread by approx 3-4 m thus allowing the tree to be retained.
