What a grant of permission means

The process from here

Permission has been granted, usually subject to conditions listed on the decision notice, some of which must be discharged before work starts. The decision notice on the council portal sets out exactly what was approved.

Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses. Neighbours cannot appeal a grant; challenging one means judicial review of how the decision was made, within tight time limits.

About trees applications

How this application type works

Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.

Completely remove the tree as soon as possible. A 3.25 metre Bulwell stone wall in front of the tree has been pushed [toward the highway] out and split away. A Bulwell stone wall builder inspected the wall. He informed that in his opinion the split and pushing forward of the wall was due solely to the movement of the tree and he pointed out that the repair of the wall would be pointless without the removal of the tree as the tree will continue to exert forward pressure.

The tree is a very tall silver birch (T1) located on the left hand side of the rear garden looking west from Lucknow Avenue. The tree leans at a precarious angle (about 25 degrees from the vertical) and the roots are perched on a crumbling rockery bank. If the tree should fall it is in danger of reaching our neighbors garden and may pose a risk to the small child living there. We would replace this silver birch with a new sapling of the same species, plant it close to the existing tree's position but on a more stable, flat piece of ground (we have already planted four silver birches and three fruit trees during our time at this address). We have today had advice and a quotation from (Lee at) Charnwood Tree Services and would like to proceed with the felling to ground level of this tree as soon as is possible. Regards, R L Toynton.
