About trees applications
How this application type works
Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.

Tree Reference T72 (as shown on sketch plan)Species Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus) Approximate Height 15 metres. LocationT72 is situated on the lefthand boundary of the rear garden when viewed from the front of the property. Proposed Works Primary proposal Fell T72 to ground level and remove all associated arisings. Alternative proposal (if felling is not approved)Undertake a substantial crown reduction of T72 reducing overall height and lateral spread as far as is reasonably practicable to remove or significantly reduce encroachment towards the overhead power line crossing the garden. Pruning to be carried out back to suitable growth points in order to retain a viable balanced crown and encourage healthy regrowth, while managing the tree at a reduced size going forward. Reason for WorksT72 is a mature sycamore approximately 15 metres in height and is in direct contact with an overhead power line that crosses the rear garden. The lateral canopy is continuing to grow into the line resulting in repeated contact and ongoing maintenance conflict. There have also been instances of branch failure from the upper crown with branches falling onto the roof of the house. Although no damage has occurred this raises concern regarding the trees safety given its proximity to the property. In addition the tree is slightly leaning towards the house which increases concern during periods of strong winds and adverse weather conditions. The tree has been previously reduced although the extent and timing of this work is unknown. It has since regrown significantly and is now of a size that creates ongoing management difficulties. Given its current condition size and location in relation to both the property and overhead power line full removal is considered the most appropriate longterm solution. However recognising the potential constraints of a Tree Preservation Order an alternative option of ... Camp Terrace North Shields TPO 1981
